Description:
The Comal County Jail, as all county jails in the State of Texas, is operated and maintained by the County Sheriff. The jail is located in the Comal County seat of New Braunfels, Texas. The previous jail was located in the original historic limestone Courthouse (pictured below) located in downtown New Braunfels where inmates were housed from 1939 through 1985. In 1985, a new jail was opened at 3005 W. San Antonio St; the current jail location. For decades, the city of New Braunfels has experienced tremendous growth and in order to keep pace with the growth, the jail was expanded and nearly doubled in size in 1999 to it’s current capacity of 337 beds. The county continues to grow and the need for additional jail space is looming on the near horizon
