Tarrant County public records include criminal, court, property, and vital documents, provided they are not designated as confidential. In accordance with the Texas Public Information Act, government agencies provide access to public records online or when requested by people. Marriage records are public information, though they can be confidential upon the registrant's request or a court decision. Certified copies of marriage records are only available from the county clerk. Birth records are confidential for 75 years, while death records are confidential for 25. Divorce information is also public for anyone interested as well. Public records come at a price, though, depending on the request type. According to Section 552.261 of the state code, record custodians can charge requesters according to the cost of materials and overheads.
